equality, diversity
& inclusion policy

Updated: Monday 17 August 2026

Rhymes with Purple is committed to providing a supportive and inclusive culture for:

  • all those who need our services

  • our clients

  • our team and

  • other collaborators.

We recognise the positive value of diversity, promoting equality and fairness, and challenging discrimination.

We welcome our legal duties not to discriminate as a service provider and an employer.

We aim to go beyond the narrow scope of legislative compliance and follow best practices, making equality, diversity and inclusion a fundamental part of all our activities.

We recognise that people with different backgrounds, skills, attitudes and experiences bring fresh ideas and perceptions, and we wish to encourage and harness these differences to make our services more relevant and accessible.

We will not discriminate or tolerate discriminatory behaviour on the grounds of race, colour, sex, gender identity (transgender), disability, nationality, national or ethnic origin, religion or belief, marital/partnership or family status, caring responsibilities, sexual orientation, age, those identifying as non-binary, social class, educational background, employment status, working pattern, trade union membership or any other factor.

At Rhymes with Purple, we believe that Black lives matter. We stand in solidarity with the Black community against systemic racism, injustice, and inequality. We recognise our responsibility to actively listen, learn, and contribute to the structural changes required to build a fair and inclusive society. Our commitment to anti-racism is ongoing, and we pledge to embed these values into our workplace culture, our partnerships, and our services.

This policy relates to all aspects of work undertaken by Rhymes with Purple, including employment and recruitment and selection, meeting client’s needs and service delivery, and working with and supporting suppliers, supporters and other associated third parties.

values-aligned
working policy

Updated: Monday 17 August 2026

Rhymes with Purple believes that the work we choose to make, support and promote matters.

We work with artists, organisations, festivals, venues, businesses and public bodies across theatre, circus, events and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. We welcome a wide range of perspectives, creative approaches and subject matter, including work that is challenging, political, provocative or difficult.

At the same time, we reserve the right to decline projects, partnerships or clients where we believe our involvement would conflict with our values or contribute to avoidable harm.

We will not knowingly support work that promotes or legitimises discrimination, hate speech, harassment, dehumanisation or hostility towards marginalised or protected communities.

We may also decline work that involves deliberate misinformation, exploitative or unsafe working practices, misleading environmental claims or greenwashing, or where our involvement appears intended primarily to disguise or distract from serious harmful conduct.

We assess projects in context. The depiction of prejudice, violence, offensive beliefs or difficult subject matter does not in itself make a project unsuitable. Theatre and live performance often exist to examine uncomfortable ideas. We distinguish between work that explores, questions or challenges harm and work that actively promotes or materially contributes to it.

Where concerns arise, we may ask for further information or suggest changes to a project before deciding whether to proceed.

We also recognise that circumstances can change. If significant new information emerges after a project has begun, we reserve the right to review our involvement and, where appropriate and contractually possible, withdraw.

These decisions are made by Rhymes with Purple on a case-by-case basis. Acceptance of one project does not create an obligation to accept another, and declining a project does not necessarily represent a judgement on every aspect of the artist, organisation or individuals involved.

Our aim is simple: to work creatively, fairly and responsibly, while making space for ambitious art, difficult conversations and a broad range of voices.

If you are unsure whether a proposed project is a good fit for Rhymes with Purple, please contact us and tell us about it.

transgender inclusion
statement

Updated: Monday 17 August 2026

At Rhymes with Purple, we want to provide a service where everyone is comfortable coming to us for advice and Production Services in a workplace where everyone belongs. At the same time, speaking up for people who face intense disadvantage, detriment and harm is also a crucial part of our belief. Bringing these elements together means we are a proudly trans-inclusive service, in line with our values and social justice approach to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion.

We are committed to providing equal opportunities and value for all, respecting the diversity of our team and clients. We believe everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of gender identity or expression. We have a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination, victimisation or harassment based on a person’s gender identity. We have confidential and supportive methods of reporting experiences or witnessing bullying, harassment, and intolerance for clients and our team members.

We are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for all individuals, including those who identify as Trans (‘denoting or relating to a person whose gender identity does not correspond with the sex registered for them at birth.’). We have chosen ‘trans’ because it is one of the broadest and most widely accepted words in current use. However, we recognise it is not a term everyone uses and we recognise and respect everyone’s right to choose how they, as individuals, are described. As in any situation where opinions differ, we always encourage respectful dialogue, remembering there is a person behind the statement. We ask all team members to be mindful of discussions that affect some people more directly and personally than others.

We recognise the importance of using language affirming and respectful of trans individuals, and we will make every effort to use appropriate pronouns and terminology. We are committed to ongoing education and training for our team to ensure we provide the best possible service to all clients and collaborators.

We acknowledge that trans individuals face unique challenges and discrimination in our society, and we are committed to providing support and resources that are sensitive and responsive to their needs. We will work to ensure that our services are inclusive and accessible to all individuals, regardless of their gender identity or expression.

At Rhymes with Purple, we stand in solidarity with trans individuals. We are committed to advocating for their rights and working towards a society that is inclusive and accepting of all individuals, regardless of their gender identity or expression.

FRINGE PRODUCING, SUPPORT
& CONSULTANCY SERVICE POLICY

Updated: September 2026

These Terms apply to Fringe producing, support and consultancy services supplied by Rhymes with Purple (“RwP”, “we”, “us”) to the person, artist, company or organisation purchasing the service (“you”, “the Client”).

The specific service you have purchased, its price, inclusions and any agreed variations will be confirmed in writing and form part of these Terms.

1. Our Fringe Services

Rhymes with Purple offers three principal levels of Fringe support.

Full Fringe Production

Under Full Fringe Production, Rhymes with Purple acts as your Fringe producer in the areas agreed between us.

This may include strategic planning, venue liaison, production management, marketing oversight, sales monitoring, regular producer meetings, practical Fringe support and other services listed on our Fringe Packages page or agreed in writing.

Full Production does not automatically include third-party or additional services such as flyering staff, graphic design, website creation, printing, paid advertising, accommodation, travel, venue costs, technical staff, photography, video, dramaturgy or script consultation unless these are specifically included in your agreement.

PLEASE NOTE: Public relations and press representation are not included in our Fringe producing services.

Fringe Support

Fringe Support is a structured advisory service for artists and companies who are producing their own work.

You remain responsible for your production and for implementing decisions and recommendations.

Your package may include strategy sessions, marketing review, scheduled consultations, Fringe readiness reviews, check-ins during the festival and an end-of-run review, as described on the Fringe Packages page or agreed in writing.

Fringe Support does not mean that Rhymes with Purple becomes your producer.

Fringe Consultancy

Consultancy provides focused advice on specific aspects of your Fringe plans.

Consultancy may cover subjects such as venue choice, budgets, ticketing, marketing, audience development, schedules, production planning or Fringe strategy.

Unless specifically agreed otherwise, consultancy does not include ongoing project management, implementation of advice, contacting venues or suppliers on your behalf, or acting as your producer.

2. What Is Included

The inclusions for your chosen package are those stated on the relevant Rhymes with Purple sales or package page at the time you book, together with any subsequent written agreement between us.

Where there is any conflict between general website information and a specific written proposal, booking confirmation or contract issued to you, the specific written agreement will take precedence.

Additional services may be purchased separately where available.

3. Initial Consultation and Project Suitability

We may ask prospective clients to attend an initial consultation before confirming a package.

This allows us to understand:

  1. your show and creative aims;

  2. your experience of the Fringe;

  3. your budget and practical circumstances;

  4. what you hope to achieve in Edinburgh; and

  5. what level of support is appropriate.

An initial consultation does not oblige Rhymes with Purple to accept the project for Full Production or Fringe Support. We reserve the right to decline projects where we do not believe the relationship is a suitable creative, practical or ethical fit.

Where appropriate, we may recommend a lower level of service than the one you originally enquired about.

4. Our Role and Your Responsibilities

The level of responsibility Rhymes with Purple assumes depends on the package purchased.

With Full Fringe Production, we take responsibility for the specific producing functions agreed between us.

With Fringe Support and Fringe Consultancy, you remain the producer.

In all cases, unless specifically agreed otherwise, you remain responsible for:

* the artistic content and quality of the production;
* ensuring you have the necessary performance, music, image and other intellectual-property rights;
* performer and crew contracts;
* insurance;
* employment obligations;
* licensing;
* safeguarding;
* health and safety;
* immigration and visa requirements;
* tax and financial obligations;
* venue contractual obligations; and
* compliance with applicable laws and festival rules.

We may advise on these areas from a producing perspective, but this does not constitute legal, accounting, immigration or other regulated professional advice.

5. No Guaranteed Outcomes

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is inherently unpredictable. Rhymes with Purple does not guarantee:

* ticket sales;
* sell-out performances;
* reviews or star ratings;
* press coverage;
* awards;
* industry attendance;
* touring offers;
* venue invitations;
* profitability; or
* any other particular commercial or artistic outcome.

We will provide the agreed services with reasonable care and skill and will work with you to give the production the best practical opportunity to achieve the objectives we agree together.

6. Fees and Payment

Prices are those stated on the website, proposal or booking confirmation at the time of purchase.

For Full Fringe Production, a £1,000 retainer is normally required to secure the project unless otherwise agreed. The retainer forms part of the total producer fee.

Remaining payments must be made according to the payment schedule agreed between us.

For Fringe Support, Consultancy and additional services, payment may be required in full at booking or according to an agreed payment plan.

If an instalment remains unpaid for more than seven days after its due date, we may suspend services until the account is brought up to date.

Third-party expenditure is not included unless explicitly stated.

You will not be charged significant third-party costs without your prior approval.

7. Additional Services and Expenses

Additional services may include:

* flyering and street teams;
* pre-Fringe postering;
* graphic design;
* website design;
* marketing audits;
* dramaturgy;
* script consultation; and
* other project-specific support.

Prices for these services are those stated on the website or agreed in writing.

Printing, venue costs, ticketing fees, advertising spend, accommodation, travel, freight, technical equipment and other external costs are normally payable separately.

Where Rhymes with Purple incurs agreed expenses on your behalf, these may be recharged to you.

## 8. Meetings, Calls and Availability

Meetings and consultations are booked according to availability.

For scheduled Consultancy and Fringe Support sessions:

* you may normally reschedule with at least **48 hours’ notice**;
* cancellations or rescheduling with less than 48 hours’ notice may result in the session being forfeited;
* late arrival does not normally extend the booked session; and
* if you are more than 15 minutes late without contacting us, we may treat the session as a no-show.

If Rhymes with Purple needs to reschedule because of illness, emergency or circumstances outside our reasonable control, we will offer an alternative appointment.

Full Production clients will receive meetings and communication according to the working arrangements agreed for their production.

## 9. Communication and Response Times

We aim to communicate clearly and within reasonable working hours.

Unless specifically agreed as part of your package, Rhymes with Purple does not provide a 24-hour emergency or instant-response service.

During the Fringe, Full Production clients may receive enhanced practical support appropriate to the production, but this does not mean that an individual producer will be continuously available.

Where WhatsApp or another messaging service is used, it should be used reasonably and for matters relevant to the production.

Complex issues may be redirected to a scheduled meeting or additional paid consultation where they fall outside the scope of the purchased service.

## 10. Client Conduct

We expect clients, artists and collaborators to treat Rhymes with Purple staff, freelancers and other artists with respect.

We will not tolerate:

* harassment;
* threats or abusive behaviour;
* discriminatory language or conduct;
* hate speech;
* sexual harassment;
* persistent unreasonable demands;
* intimidation; or
* behaviour that creates an unsafe working environment.

Serious or repeated breaches may result in termination of services.

## 11. Values and Project Suitability

Rhymes with Purple operates a values-aligned working policy.

We may refuse or withdraw from projects that we reasonably believe promote or materially contribute to:

* discrimination;
* hate speech;
* harassment or dehumanisation;
* serious exploitation;
* deliberate misinformation likely to cause harm;
* misleading environmental claims or greenwashing; or
* harm against marginalised communities.

Challenging, political or controversial subject matter is not in itself grounds for refusal. We consider context, intent and likely impact.

If significant concerns arise after we have accepted a project, we may discuss changes with you or, where necessary and contractually possible, end our involvement.

## 12. Confidentiality

We will treat non-public information you provide to us about your project as confidential.

We will not disclose confidential material except:

* with your permission;
* where required by law;
* where necessary to provide the agreed service;
* to professional advisers who are themselves subject to duties of confidentiality; or
* where disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the safety or legal rights of Rhymes with Purple or another person.

You must also respect confidential information shared with you by Rhymes with Purple, our team or other clients.

## 13. Recordings and Meetings

You must not record private meetings, consultancy sessions or calls without the consent of everyone participating.

If recording is agreed, the permitted use of that recording should also be agreed.

Rhymes with Purple will not publish or share private information about your project without permission, except in anonymised form where no individual or production can reasonably be identified.

## 14. Materials and Intellectual Property

Templates, guides, spreadsheets, checklists, frameworks and other resources supplied by Rhymes with Purple remain our intellectual property unless otherwise stated.

You may use and adapt them for your own production and internal team purposes.

You must not:

* resell them;
* publish them;
* distribute them outside your production team;
* upload them publicly;
* use them to create competing commercial products; or
* remove RwP branding or copyright notices where present.

The intellectual property in your production remains yours or that of the relevant rights holder.

## 15. Marketing Materials and Approvals

Where Rhymes with Purple creates or commissions marketing materials on your behalf, you are responsible for checking factual information before approving publication.

We may rely on information supplied by you, including:

* biographies;
* credits;
* dates;
* venue information;
* awards;
* quotations;
* accessibility information; and
* claims about the production.

You are responsible for ensuring that material supplied to us can lawfully be used.

## 16. Cancellation by the Client

Cancellation rights depend on the service purchased, when work has begun and whether digital materials or booked professional time have already been supplied.

Where applicable, statutory consumer cancellation rights will be respected.

If you ask us to begin providing services during any statutory cancellation period, you may be required to pay for work already carried out if you subsequently cancel.

Where a Full Production project is cancelled after work has begun, fees already paid may be non-refundable and further fees may become payable according to the work already completed and any contractual commitments entered into on your behalf.

Any specific cancellation schedule included in your proposal or contract will take precedence over this general clause.

## 17. Cancellation or Withdrawal by Rhymes with Purple

We may withdraw from a project where:

* you materially breach these Terms;
* agreed payments remain outstanding;
* you repeatedly fail to provide information required for us to perform the service;
* your conduct towards our staff or collaborators is unacceptable;
* continuing the relationship would create a significant legal, ethical or reputational risk;
* the project becomes impractical or impossible to deliver;
* required rights, permissions, funding or venue arrangements cannot be secured; or
* there has been a serious breakdown in the working relationship.

Where possible, we will discuss concerns with you before ending the relationship.

Any refund or outstanding payment will depend on the circumstances, work already undertaken and the specific agreement between us.

## 18. Force Majeure and Events Outside Our Control

We are not responsible for failure or delay caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control.

These may include:

* venue closure;
* festival cancellation;
* extreme weather;
* transport disruption;
* illness;
* industrial action;
* government restrictions;
* public-health emergencies;
* technical failures;
* utility outages; or
* failure of third-party platforms.

Where possible, we will work with you to find a reasonable alternative.

## 19. Third Parties

We may recommend venues, designers, printers, technicians, marketers, accommodation providers, performers or other suppliers.

Unless we specifically contract them on your behalf as part of Full Production, any agreement you enter into with them is between you and that third party.

We are not responsible for the acts, omissions or insolvency of independent third-party suppliers.

## 20. Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

Subject to that, Rhymes with Purple will not be liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of profit, opportunity, reputation, anticipated savings or future bookings arising from the Fringe performance of your production.

Where permitted by law, our total liability connected with the purchased service will not exceed the fees paid to Rhymes with Purple for that service.

## 21. Data Protection

Personal information will be handled in accordance with applicable UK data-protection law and our Privacy Policy.

Where third-party services such as WhatsApp, Google Meet, Zoom, Wix or cloud-storage systems are used, those services may process personal information under their own privacy terms.

## 22. Changes to the Project

Fringe productions often change.

If the scope, scale, venue, schedule, run length or requirements of your production change significantly after agreement, we may need to revise:

* the services provided;
* deadlines;
* staffing;
* expenses; or
* fees.

Any material change will be discussed and agreed with you.

## 23. Governing Law

These Terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the laws of Scotland.

The Scottish courts will have jurisdiction over disputes arising from the agreement, subject to any statutory consumer rights that require otherwise.

## 24. Contact

Questions about these Terms or your Fringe package should be sent to:

**Rhymes with Purple**
**Email:** [frodo@rhymeswithpurple.net](mailto:frodo@rhymeswithpurple.net)
**Website:** rhymeswithpurple.net

### A note about our packages

The three levels of Fringe service are intentionally different.

**Full Fringe Production** means Rhymes with Purple becomes part of your producing team and takes responsibility for the agreed areas of your Fringe campaign.

**Fringe Support** means you remain your own producer, with structured access to our experience and advice.

**Fringe Consultancy** provides focused expert guidance on specific questions or decisions.

If you’re unsure which level you need, **book an initial consultation first**. We’ll recommend the level of support that makes sense for your production, including telling you when you don’t need to spend more money with us.
